Odessa road project remains on schedule for September reopening

Construction work in Odessa is moving forward, with officials saying the County Road 2 and bridge reconstruction project remains on schedule.

Dan Baxter, manager of roads and bridges with the County of Lennox and Addington, said crews have been focused on bridge construction and underground infrastructure work west of the bridge. The project is being completed in phases before moving to the east side of the area.

As part of the work, Durham Street has also now been closed while Loyalist Township completes its own reconstruction project near the public school. The closure was originally part of the project plan, but the road remained open temporarily to help local traffic.

Baxter said the full closure is needed because of the depth of the underground services being installed.

The closure has also prompted frustration from some residents on social media. Several said they felt there was not enough advance notice before Durham Street closed, while others said limited detour signage has left motorists confused about how to get around the construction. Some also raised concerns about longer travel times, the impact on local businesses and the lack of an alternate east-west route through the village.

The full closure of Durham Street and County Road 2 is expected to remain in place until the end of August. After that, traffic will return while final restoration work continues under single-lane closures.

Baxter said the county understands the disruption for residents and appreciates their patience.
