Potential candidates have until August 21 to file nomination papers, 6 of the 13 sitting City Council members are seeking re-election.
Almost half of the current members of Kingston City Council have already filed papers to run again in this year's municipal elections.
As of Tuesday, Paul Chaves of Loyalist-Cataraqui, Wendy Stephen of Lakeside, Don Amos of Portsmouth, Jimmy Hassan of Trillium, Brandon Tozzo of Kingscourt-Rideau Heights, and Vincent Cinanni of Williamsville are on the list of candidates released by the City of Kingston during the first week of the nomination period.
Two others are hoping to get elected this October: Annie Palone in Sydenham, and Zachary Typhair in Pittsburgh. There have been no official candidates running for mayor and four districts since the nomination period began on Friday.
Current Mayor Bryan Paterson has not announced whether he will run for a fourth consecutive term.
There are also no official canadidates running for the five english public, one english catholic, one french catholic, and one french public trustee positions in the Kingston area.
People that wish to run in the October 26 election have until Friday August 21 to submit a nomination form to the City Clerk's office. The list will be certified Monday August 24.
