The Township have closed the beach as the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks continue testing.
Gilmour Point Beach is closed to the public.
The Township of South Frontenac say they have identifed a potential algae bloom on Dog Lake in Battersea making it unsafe for swimming. They are currently awaiting results from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks office in Kingston.
In addition to swimming, residents are being advised not to use lake water near the bloom, as well as keep pets and livestock away from the water near the bloom.
Those who are in contact with the algae could experience symptoms of itchy, irritated eyes and skin. If the toxins is swallowed, it could produce flu-like symptoms, such as headache, fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.
The Ministry will continue to collect water samples daily for testing.
Day camp attendees at the beach will only be participating in land activities during the closure of the beach until the Township has been notified that the water is safe for swimming.
