The former Extendicare building will also be home to a primary care clinic, health and wellness centre, and community spaces.
Work on the new transitional housing in Kingston is nearing its completion.
The City of Kingston purchased the former Extendicare building on Queen Mary Rd in 2024. The building will be home to 33 new transitional units as well as support services, primary health care, and community spaces.
Home Base Housing will oversee the transitional housing program. Kingston Community Health Centres will be operating the Midtown Kingston Health Home primary health clinic.
Lionhearts will be operating a vocational laundry program out of the community space.
The building will also house a health and wellness centre which will provide respiratory rehabilitation, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, and other services.
The centre was originally to be part of the expanded Invista Centre before the City decided to relocate those services to the Queen Mary Rd location. Council formally approved the change at last Tuesday's meeting.
The health care clinic is in operation while the transitional housing unit will open in August and the vocation laundry program will begin in October.
The City is taking applications for the Community Liaison Committee that will serve as a connection between partner agencies and the community. Deadline for submissions is August 9.
