Adam MacIntosh's tenure began on Jan 20 taking over from Scott Fraser who retired New Year's Eve.
The new Chief of Police in Kingston is starting to settle in to his role.
It has been over two months since the Kingston Police Services Board first announced that Adam MacIntosh will take over as police chief from Scott Fraser who retired at the end of 2025.
MacIntosh's first day on the job was on Jan 20.
He sat down with KingstonDaily.ca to talk about his years of experience in policing and what he hopes to accomplish as Chief of Kingston Police.
MacIntosh says he has been serving the public on a local level and at the international level with the RCMP.
Macintosh will oversee a police force that has seen its share of personnel and staff turnover. Most recently, Deputy Chief Matt Funnell announced his retirement from the force despite being on administrative leave since late 2024.
Macintosh says he would like to see more officers remain on the force and continue their policing career, and wants to lead by example.
Another issue is mental health and post-traumatic stress disorder among first responders especially front-line police officers.
Macintosh says one way to enhance public safety in the community is to support officers who are dealing with these obstacles.
Macintosh says he wants to hear from the public about the role of policing in Kingston.
He says with the population in Kingston expected to grow, it's important to be prepared for that growth.
MacIntosh has previously worked in Nunavut and British Columbia. While this is the first time MacIntosh has worked in Kingston, he has family and relatives who live throughout Eastern Ontario.
