Six by-law enforcement officers recently completed training and were sworn in on Monday.
The first crop of Kingston municipal special constables are now out patrolling the streets.
Six new officers were officially sworn in on Monday.
They were the first group of by-law enforcement officers trained under the city's new municipal service constables program.
They will be assisting Kingston Police in mostly non-criminal enforcement and public safety matters. They will also receive policing powers including the ability to make arrests.
The municipal special constables will continue to perform duties as supervisors in the City’s Licensing & Enforcement Services department.
The City created the program in response to the number of low-priority calls.
