Woodbine Park celebrates a new space for young athletes through a partnership with Jays Care Foundation.
Kingston officially welcomed a new Jr. Baseball Diamond at Woodbine Park on Saturday with a community celebration marking the opening of the new field.
The City of Kingston partnered with Jays Care Foundation, the charitable arm of the Toronto Blue Jays, to bring the project to life with support from TD Bank and local community partners.
Mayor Bryan Paterson joined councillors, city staff, Jays Care Foundation representatives, Kingston Thunder Baseball players and community members for the event. Paterson officially opened the field by throwing the ceremonial first pitch.
The new diamond is designed to provide more opportunities for children and youth to play baseball in a safe and welcoming environment.
Director of the Challenger Baseball program Randy Casford says that hes grateful more kids will get a chance to play.
City officials said the project reflects a commitment to investing in recreation spaces that encourage active living and community connections. Casford says he believes the field will keep growing.
The celebration included remarks from project partners and a chance for attendees to explore the new baseball facility following the official opening ceremony.
