Tobacco, marijuana, crystal methamphetamine, hashish, and cannabis concentrate were among the items seized.
Correctional Service Canada says staff at Collins Bay Institution seized nearly $500,000 worth of contraband and unauthorized items during a week-long operation at the federal prison.
Officials say the seizures took place between April 30 and May 6 at the multi-level security institution in Kingston. The estimated institutional value of the items was about $499,100.
Among the items seized were tobacco, marijuana, crystal methamphetamine, hashish, cannabis concentrate known as “shatter,” drug paraphernalia, an edged weapon, and several cell phones with accessories.
Correctional Service Canada says the seizures were the result of staff vigilance and ongoing security efforts aimed at stopping drugs and contraband from entering federal institutions.
The agency says it uses ion scanners, detector dogs and searches of inmates, visitors, buildings and personal property to help maintain safety inside prisons.
