Most first-year students arrived Saturday as Queen’s University kicked off the new academic year.
Queen’s University welcomed approximately 4,850 first-year undergraduate students to Kingston during Move-In Weekend on Sept. 4 and 5.
About 3,850 students moved into residence buildings on Saturday, with students settling into 18 residences across campus.
The annual move-in period brought increased activity and traffic to the university and surrounding areas as students and their families arrived in Kingston.
Queen’s worked closely with community partners, including the City of Kingston, Kingston Transit, traffic specialists, Kingston Police and other emergency services, to help ensure the process went smoothly. Vice-Provost, Student Affairs Corinna Fitzgerald explains the planning that goes into the move-in weekend.
She also says they try their best to make incoming students comfortable.
The weekend marked the start of the university experience for thousands of new students, who are now beginning classes and other activities as the fall academic term gets underway.
