The region has seen an increase in streamflows and groundwater levels thanks to normal rainfall.
Cataraqui Conservation and the Low Water Response Team have confirmed a Level 1 Low Water Condition for the Cataraqui Region, covering areas from Napanee to Brockville and north to Newboro. The declaration is a downgrade from the previous Level 2 condition, following increased streamflows and groundwater levels.
Officials say November precipitation of 66 mm, considered normal, and two months of consecutive normal rainfall have helped water levels rebound. Despite this improvement, the region remains 60–80 per cent of normal over the last three and eighteen months, leaving a long-term precipitation deficit. Sustained normal precipitation will be needed to fully resolve the low water condition.
Residents who rely on groundwater or draw from lakes and streams are asked to voluntarily conserve water, repair leaks, and reduce non-essential use. Well owners are encouraged to follow Ontario’s drought guidelines and consult licensed contractors if needed. Municipal water bylaws may also apply.
Cataraqui Conservation continues to monitor conditions and urges the public to report low water concerns through an online form.
