Police say someone was taking water from a hydrant earlier this month.
A 44-year-old Kingston resident is facing multiple charges following an investigation into the alleged theft of water from hydrants in Gananoque.
Gananoque Police say officers received information on June 4 and 5 regarding a water company allegedly taking water from municipal hydrants without authorization. The investigation continued with support from Public Utility employees, who monitored water usage throughout the community.
On June 13, utility staff detected another water draw from a hydrant and notified police. Officers on patrol located the suspect water truck and arrested the driver.
The accused has been charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 and one count of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Police say the individual was held in custody for a bail hearing, while the water truck was seized as evidence as the investigation continues.
