Kingston is the only Canadian community to earn a spot on the 2026 Top7 Intelligent Communities list.
Kingston has once again been recognized as one of the world's Top7 Intelligent Communities, making it the only Canadian city to earn the honour in 2026.
The designation was announced Thursday by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), which recognizes communities using digital technology and innovation to improve economic growth, quality of life and inclusion. The annual rankings evaluate broadband access, workforce development, innovation, digital inclusion and community engagement.
The recognition marks Kingston's third appearance among the ICF's Top7 communities and builds on its 2025 certification as an Intelligent Community. Earlier this year, the city was also named to the organization's Smart21 list.
Mayor Bryan Paterson said the award reflects the work of local businesses, post-secondary institutions, community organizations and residents in building a connected and future-ready city.
Kingston's submission highlighted initiatives including broadband expansion through Utilities Kingston, the Helix Life Sciences Initiative, the RXN HUB clean technology facility, Better Homes Kingston and partnerships advancing digital health and artificial intelligence.
The seven finalists will gather at the ICF Global Summit in Ohio this October, where the 2026 Intelligent Community of the Year will be announced.
