Kingston invites community to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day with culture and connection

June 21 event at Confederation Park will feature drumming, storytelling, workshops and family activities.

Residents and visitors are invited to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day in Kingston with an afternoon of music, culture and community on June 21.

The Kingston Native Centre and Language Nest, in partnership with the City of Kingston, will host the free event from 1 to 6 p.m. at Confederation Park across from City Hall.

The celebration will honour the cultures, histories and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples while creating opportunities for learning and reflection. Activities will include drumming, singing, dancing, storytelling, cultural workshops and interactive community booths.

Families can also enjoy a Kids Zone featuring an inflatable corn maze, face painting and other activities. Indigenous artisan vendors will showcase handmade goods, while food vendors including Adelitas Kingston and Momochtli Popcorn will offer refreshments throughout the day.

A Sacred Fire will provide a space for reflection and connection.

City officials say National Indigenous Peoples Day offers an opportunity to deepen understanding, strengthen relationships and recognize the ongoing importance of reconciliation through shared experiences and community engagement.
