Utilities Kingston is beginning a multi-year project to replace aging electric, water and gas meters across Kingston.
The AMI 2.0 program is set to begin in July and will introduce newer metering technology designed to improve reliability, data accuracy and utility operations. The system will also help support future changes, including electrification, renewable energy and grid modernization.
Work will take place by neighbourhood, with customers receiving notice before crews arrive. Where possible, multiple meters will be replaced during the same visit to reduce disruptions.
An adult aged 18 or older must be present to provide access to the property and meters. Most installations are expected to take about 30 minutes per service, and brief service interruptions may occur.
There is no charge for standard meter replacements. Customers may be responsible for repairs if unsafe or damaged customer-owned equipment is found before installation.
