Kingston Fire & Rescue has lifted the city-wide total burn ban and replaced it with a partial ban effective Sept. 5
The move comes under the city’s open-air fires bylaw, as fire risk levels decrease but safety precautions remain in place.
Under the partial ban, agricultural and brush fires are prohibited, and fireworks are not allowed. Residents can still enjoy campfires in Zone 1 with a valid permit, as long as they follow size, location and supervision rules. Outdoor fireplaces, chimineas and other CSA- or ULC-approved wood-burning appliances are also permitted under existing permit conditions. Gas, propane and charcoal barbecues and smokers remain allowed.
Interim Fire Chief Kevin Donaldson says the shift reflects “reduced fire risk while maintaining a level of caution.” Non-compliance can bring fines of up to $25,000 for individuals.
Residents are reminded to monitor weather, never leave fires unattended and fully extinguish them before leaving.
