Kingston family prepares for upcoming fundraising lemonade stand

The annual Mending Hearts with Declyn stand raises money for the pediatric cardiology unit at KHSC.

Kingston's most popular lemonade stand is back to raise money for the Kingston Health Sciences Centre.

Siblings Ryder and Jordyn Carmen along with their friend Grady are holding their annual Mending Hearts with Declyn lemonade stand this Saturday outside their home on Old Colony Rd at Bayridge Dr.

The event is in honour of their youngest sibling, Declyn, who died of a congenital heart defect called atrioventricular septal defect in January 2022 at the age of three months.

In the four years, the lemonade stand has raised over $23,000 for the pediatric cardiology unit. 

KHSC recently purchased an echocardiogram for the pediatric cardiology unit using the money that was raised from lemonade stands.

The family were able to see the machine at the hospital and the children's mother, Amanda McArthur, says it is great that families will be able to use it.

Now that the echocardiogram has been purchased, McArthur says they are looking at where else to put the money towards at the hospital.

McArthur says her children are getting older but their enthusiasm hasn't waned.

In addition to the lemonade, there will be sno-cones, baked goods, games, and more.

The Mending Hearts with Declyn lemonade stand runs from 8:30 am to 3 pm at 1018 Old Colony Rd.
