City Council directs staff to release purchase agreements for St. Peter and St. Patrick Catholic schools after financial conditions were not met.
The City of Kingston is ending its plans to purchase two surplus Catholic school properties after both agreements failed to move forward.
At its Nov. 3 meeting, City Council directed staff to provide mutual releases to the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB), ending the City's interest in both properties.
The City entered into conditional purchase agreements in July 2026, hoping to keep the former schools in institutional or community use.
For St. Peter Catholic School at 48 Seventh Avenue, Council directed staff to end the agreement following a due diligence review. The City will not seek potential institutional tenants for the property.
For St. Patrick Catholic School at 158 Patrick Street, an Expression of Interest process received two submissions. Neither met the financial conditions required for the purchase.
The decision ends the City's efforts to acquire the two properties to maintain their institutional use.
