Kingston drivers face another week of delays as construction season rolls on

Several road closures, lane reductions and paving projects are expected.

Kingston drivers may want to leave a little earlier this week as construction season continues to test patience across the city and surrounding communities.

Several road closures, lane reductions and paving projects are expected during the week ending Aug. 9.

Anyone arriving late to work may have a ready-made explanation after travelling along King Street West near George Street. Lane reductions are scheduled from 7 p.m. Aug. 6 until 6 a.m. Aug. 7 for paving near Kingston Health Sciences Centre.

Taylor Kidd Boulevard near Blackburn Mews could also slow traffic during paving work on Aug. 4.

The delays are not limited to the city.

Highway 15 north of Highway 401 will have single-lane traffic through Aug. 7, with delays of up to 10 minutes possible.

Drivers using Highway 33 between Bath and the Glenora Ferry could face single-lane closures and waits of up to 15 minutes through Aug. 7.

Ongoing construction also continues on Princess Street, King Street West, Norman Rogers Drive, Cranbrook Street, South Bartlett Street and Leroy Grant Drive.

The LaSalle Causeway will add another challenge on Sunday, Aug. 9. It is scheduled to close to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians while the marine channel is temporarily opened.

Drivers are encouraged to check routes before leaving, allow extra time and watch for workers and changing traffic patterns.

The good news is nobody is stuck in the construction mess alone. Thousands of Kingston-area drivers are sharing the same orange-cone-filled journey. So take a breath, turn up the radio and remember: eventually, traffic will start moving again.
