International maritime organization plans Kingston meeting to explore forming local chapter.
The International Ship Masters’ Association is exploring the creation of a new lodge in Kingston, with an organizational meeting planned for May 13 at Riverhead Brewing Company.
The meeting will bring together licensed mariners and others connected to the maritime industry to discuss forming a Kingston-area lodge.
Grand Lodge Secretary and Treasurer Thomas Foster tells us what the organization is about.
The association, founded in 1886, represents professional mariners throughout the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway. ISMA currently has 16 active lodges across Canada and the United States.
Foster says Kingston is a strong fit because of its large maritime workforce and industry connections.
The meeting will get underway at 7 pm and will include discussions about memberships, executive nominations and future development plans for the proposed lodge.
