Local athletes bring elite skills home while chasing Olympic dreams.
Two Kingston aerial coaches are celebrating international success after dominating competition in Spain and earning podium finishes at Canadian nationals.
Diana Printsev and Margarita Zimak each captured two gold medals at the Spanish National Pole & Aerial Sport & Art Championship in May, competing in an open division that allows athletes from countries without active federations to qualify for the POSA World Championships.
Margarita Zimak says representing the Kingston is a proud moment
Printsev won Elite Pole and Amateur Aerial Silks, while Zimak topped Elite Aerial Silks and Amateur Pole, recording one of the highest scores of the event.
They followed that performance at the Canadian Pole and Aerial Championship nationals in Toronto, where Zimak won semi-pro pole and Printsev placed second in professional pole.
Both athletes train each other in their secondary disciplines.
When not competing, they coach at Pole Fitness Kingston and Happy Loops, offering classes for all levels with a focus on safety, technique and overall well-being. Zimak explains more.
