Liquor licence expires.
A west-end Kingston brewery has stopped serving alcohol in its taproom after its liquor sales licence expired.
The Whig reports that According to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), Spearhead Brewing Company’s taproom licence ran out on June 28. The business must now reapply with full documents, and approval times vary.
While the taproom is closed, the brewery’s retail store and kitchen remain open. The AGCO confirmed the retail licence is valid until August 17.
Spearhead’s taproom is classified as a “tied house,” located at the same address as its brewing site on Development Drive.
The brewery says the delay is administrative and that they are working with the AGCO to fix it.
On July 11, the same day AGCO inspected the site, Spearhead announced it would serve mocktails for the weekend. It closed temporarily July 14–15.
Spearhead was bought by Skeleton Park Brewery in November 2023, which also purchased Signal Brewery in Corbyville.
