KHSC changes urgent care centre hours

Update designed to reduce the need for early patient registration closures

Kingston Health Sciences Centre is changing the operating hours at the Urgent Care Centre located at Hotel Dieu Hospital to provide more consistent access for patients.

Beginning Wednesday, July 22, the Urgent Care Centre will be open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

KHSC says the updated schedule is designed to reduce the need for early patient registration closures, which have occurred because of staffing levels and high patient volumes. The hospital says patients should have greater confidence the centre will remain open and accepting patients throughout its posted hours, although registration could still close early in exceptional circumstances.

The hospital is also changing physician schedules on weekends by moving one doctor each day from the Urgent Care Centre to the Emergency Department at Kingston General Hospital to help improve emergency wait times.

The Urgent Care Centre is intended for non-life-threatening health concerns that require medical assessment within 24 hours.
