Evan Freeman died during a confrontation with police after stabbing two people, one fatally.
A public inquest is going to be held regarding the death of a Kingston man at the hands of police.
22-year-old Evan Freeman died on Sept 12, 2019 after he was confronted by Kingston Police.
Earlier in the day, Freeman stabbed two people, one of them fatally, in the area of Bagot St and Queen St.
Ontario's Special Investigations Unit say an officer fired his weapon striking Freeman's arm. A second officer then deployed a conductive energy weapon after Freeman tried to stab himself with a knife.
Freeman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The SIU did not lay any charges against the officers.
Dr. Armita Rahmani, Regional Supervising Coroner, East Region, Kingston Office, announced the inquest on Monday.
In a news release from the Ministry of the Solicitor General, the inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Freeman’s death. It goes on to say that the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.
No date has been set for the inquest.
