An internal review is being done to examine the circumstances surrounding the 42-year-old's death.
A 42-year-old inmate at Joyceville Institution has died of apparent natural causes, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) confirmed.
Orlando Ashby passed away on April 26 while in custody. He had been serving a five-year sentence since October 18, 2024.
CSC has notified Ashby’s next of kin.
As required by CSC policy, both police and the coroner have been contacted.
An internal review will also be conducted to examine the circumstances surrounding the death.
The CSC says it takes all inmate deaths seriously and follows strict procedures to ensure transparency and accountability.
