Heavy rainfall possible as Special Weather Statement issued for Kingston

Some areas can expect to get 100 millimetres of rain by Wednesday.

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for the region, warning of possible heavy rainfall from tonight through Wednesday morning.

A low-pressure system is expected to develop and stall over the area Tuesday, bringing multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms. Total rainfall amounts of 50 to 100 millimetres are possible in some locations.

Officials say rainfall totals may vary widely due to the scattered nature of the thunderstorms. Some areas could receive significant rainfall depending on storm activity.

Residents are advised to monitor weather forecasts for updates, as rainfall warnings may be issued for some regions as conditions become clearer.
