A developer is proposing to build more than 170 units on a lot on Centennial Dr.
A plan for a new housing development in Kingston is being met with opposition.
The proposal is scheduled to be up for discussion at the City's Planning Committee meeting on Thursday.
The developer is looking to build 171 new residential units with 112 townhomes, 47 single-detached dwellings, and two six-unit apartment buildings on a lot at 686 Centennial Dr.
According to a staff report, approximately 475 trees would have to be cut down in order for the development to proceed. But more than 275 new trees would be planted to replace the ones that would be taken down as part of a the development of two parks on the same lot.
A group called No Clearcuts Kingston is calling on the six-member committee to reject the proposal. The group fears the loss of the trees would have a negative environmental impact in the city.
A post on the Kingston Community Facebook page is calling on residents to call their district councillor.
