Gas theft and stolen vehicle investigation in Belleville leads to charges for Kingston man

A 51-year-old was arrested for allegedly stealing a pair of vehicles and pumping gas without paying for it.

A Kingston man is facing charges in connection to a stolen vehicle and gas theft in Belleville.

Belleville Police were called to a gas station on Bell Blvd Sunday around 10:20 am about a vehicle leaving the business without paying for fuel.

Officers located the vehicle that afternoon and a pursuit ensued in an attempt to stop it. Investigators say the vehicle was seen swerving through traffic, running through red lights and stop signs, and the pursuit was called off in the interest of public safety.

The vehicle was later found abandoned and damaged.

Another vehicle was reported stolen on Donald St later that day. A delivery driver told investigators that a shirtless man drove off in the vehicle.

It was later found abandoned in the area of Riverside Park. Witnesses told investigators that they saw the driver fleeing on foot.

On Monday, investigators located the suspect in the area of Bell Blvd and Cannifton Rd around 11:16 am and made an arrest after a brief foot chase.

The 51-year-old was held for a bail hearing.
