A young man and his mother helped bring a woman in distress to safety.
The Gananoque Fire Service is recognizing several community members whose quick actions helped save a woman during Wednesday's water rescue.
Fire officials offered special thanks to a young man who immediately launched his Sea-Doo, along with his mother, who helped develop a safe plan to reach the woman in the water. They also praised two boaters who brought the woman aboard their vessel, cared for her and remained with her until emergency crews arrived.
Firefighters from Gananoque and the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands then boarded the civilian boat and transported the woman safely to shore, where she was transferred into the care of Leeds Grenville Paramedic Service.
The Fire Service says the successful rescue highlights how ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference by stepping up to help others in an emergency.
Officials also thanked TLTI Fire Service, Leeds Grenville Paramedic Service and the Ontario Provincial Police for their coordinated response.
