A ceremony was held at the Sports Hall of Fame display at Slush Puppie Place.
Kingston and District Sports Hall of Fame honoured four outstanding student-athletes Saturday morning with its prestigious Achievement Award. The presentation took place at Slush Puppie Place on Saturday.
Committee Chair Martin Secker, committee member Mike Hamilton and board member Patsy Hawkins Hogan presented $1,000 awards to the four recipients, recognizing their excellence in sports, academics and community involvement.
Chairman, Martin Secker explains why it's important for students to be recognized for their hardwork.
Committee Member, Mike Hamilton explains that this award is not only athletics, but academics as well.
Among the winners were Taylor Stelter, celebrated for her achievements in soccer and volleyball, and Sabbir Ahmed, honoured for his dedication to sports and coaching. Both students spoke about the impact of the award and their passion for inspiring others through athletics.
Taylor Stelter says it feels good to be recognized.
Sabbir Ahmed shares how grateful he is.
The Achievement Award supports student-athletes pursuing post-secondary education. Eligible students must attend schools in Kingston and Area Secondary School Athletic Association, provide academic transcripts, and receive coach endorsements.
Board Member, Patsy Hawkins Hogan explains how inspiring it is for other students to see their peers receive these awards.
The Kingston and District Sports Hall of Fame says it hopes the Achievement Awards will continue to highlight the hard work and leadership of young athletes in the community.
By recognizing their achievements and supporting their future goals, organizers say the program encourages the next generation to stay active, excel academically and give back to their communities.
