Residents can put unwanted items to the curb and bargain hunters can pick them up for free.
Just in time for spring cleaning.
The City of Kingston are holding the first Giveaway Day of 2026 this Saturday, April 25.
Giveaway Day is where residents can put unwanted items to the curb that someone could need or use. Customers can pick up the items and take them home with them free of charge.
The purpose of Giveaway Day is to keep as much waste out of landfills by reusing and recycling old products. At the same time, it is a great way for people looking for bargains.
Things that are allowed to be given away include: books, CDs, DVDs, clothing, furniture and small appliances, electronics, construction materials (including drywall, lumber, hardware), kitchen gadgets, dishes, cutlery, and pots and pans,
Stuff that can't go to the curb for Giveaway Day include: baby walkers, cribs, car seats, strollers, playpens, bath seats, mattresses, blinds and toys.
Items designated to be given away must be put to the curb in front of your house and have a sign with the word "FREE" on it. Items that are not claimed by 6 pm must be taken back inside the home.
People picking up items must be respectful to other's property and not leave items that had been picked up at other places.
