Police say the e-scooter did not meet provincial regulations under the pilot program.
Kingston Police nabbed a speeder that operating something other than a car.
Officers stopped an e-scooter in the area of Division St and John Counter Blvd that was clocked going 77 km/h in a posted 50 zone on August 1.
Investigators say the individual was arrested after failing to comply with police direction. It was later determined that the driver had other charges and outstanding matters.
They say the e-scooter that was stopped did not meet provincial requirements under the pilot program. Those that exceed the set 24 km/h speed limit are considered motor vehicles which require insurance, licence plates, a permit, a vehicle identification number.
The 42-year-old is facing charges and was held for a bail hearing.
Police are reminding the public that the operation of e-scooters is not allowed on city streets, sidewalks, trails, pathways as the City of Kingston have not yet opted-in to the pilot program.
