More than 100 local businesses and community groups participated.
Downtown Kingston turned into a pedestrian playground Saturday as the Princess Street Promenade brought shopping, games and community activities into the street.
Princess Street was closed to vehicle traffic for the free event, allowing residents and visitors to explore businesses, restaurants and displays throughout the downtown core.
More than 100 local businesses and community groups participated, offering special sales, samples, giveaways and family-friendly entertainment.
Activities included board games, live music and demonstrations. The Royal Kingston Curling Club gave visitors an opportunity to try a street version of curling and learn more about the sport.
Kingston Fire and Rescue also joined the promenade, sharing fire-prevention information with families. Children could view emergency equipment and meet local firefighters.
Food, outdoor displays and activities helped create a festival atmosphere along Princess Street throughout the day.
The Downtown Kingston Business Improvement Area organized the promenade as a way to support active living, community involvement and local businesses.
Organizers encouraged people to walk through the downtown area and discover shops, services and organizations they may not have visited before.
The promenade ran from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., giving people of all ages a chance to enjoy downtown Kingston without traffic during the summer celebration.
