The changes took effect last Wednesday and applies to students in grades nine to 12.
Showing up to class will now be part of the overall final grade for high school students in Ontario.
Changes to the assessment and evaluation made by the Ministry of Education took effect last Wednesday at the start of the new school year.
Previously, courses in grades nine to 12 were evaluated based on 70 percent classroom learning and 30 percent final evaluations or exams.
Now, it will be made up of 65 percent classroom learning, 20 percent manditory final evaluations, and 15 percent attendance and participation in grades nine and 10. Grades 11 and 12 will see 65 percent classroom learning, 25 percent manditory final evalations, and 10 percent attendance and participation.
Superintendent of K-12 Curriculum and Program Services with the Limestone District School Board Tayla McKenna says classroom participation will become part of student achievement.
McKenna says teachers and staff will continue to provide support for students.
There are also some changes to final exams but McKenna says it won't affect students at Limestone schools.
