The mayor says it is a major step forward for Kingston.
The Ontario Land Tribunal has approved the full proposal for the ambitious Tannery development in Kingston’s Inner Harbour.
The ruling allows changes to the city’s Official Plan and Zoning By-Law, paving the way for a four-phase project that will add up to 1,670 homes, over 3,600 square metres of commercial space, and new parkland along the Cataraqui River.
“This development marks a major step forward for Kingston,” said Mayor Bryan Paterson, noting the project’s potential to revitalize the urban core and clean up the city’s largest brownfield site.
Work is far from over. The draft plan of subdivision must restart, including detailed technical submissions. The developer must also secure Records of Site Condition to allow the land-use change.
Each phase will need site plan control approval and a shoreline replanting plan developed with conservation and federal agencies.
The first draft of the new Official Plan is due mid-August.
