They say callers are impersonating as Bell employees asking for access to customer's devices.
Kingston Police are advising the public about an ongoing scam.
Investigators say someone is contacting unsuspecting residents claiming to be from Bell Canada.
Victims are being told that a billing error, refund issue, or account security breach has occurred and require remote access to install software on their computers. This software allows individuals to gain access to online banking information.
Investigators say victims are often misled asking to transfer money to an offshore account and provide false information to their financial institution.
They are reminding residents that legitimate companies, such as Bell, will never request refunds or payments through wire transfers nor do they require remote access to personal devices.
Police suggest consulting a trusted family member, friend, or financial institution if you are not sure about the validity of the business.
