Susan celebrated her first concert Wednesday night after nearly three years in intensive care, surrounded by members of her care team.
After 960 days in critical care, a Kingston hospital patient has had a night to remember.
Susan, who has spent nearly three years in the intensive care unit at Kingston Health Sciences Centre, attended Bryan Adams’ concert Wednesday night at Slush Puppie Place. ICU Social worker Robin Westphal explains more.
The idea came from Susan’s personal care assistant after hearing the Canadian rock star was coming to Kingston. It quickly became a team effort involving her nurses, respiratory therapist, personal care assistant, social workers and rehabilitation team.
Susan worked with occupational and physical therapists to build the strength and stamina needed to attend the show.
She watched the concert as a VIP guest from box seats, thanks to support from Bergeron Clifford and KHSC staff.

For the KHSC team, Bryan Adams may be the headliner, but Susan is the star of the night.
