It's a Good Life If You Don't Weaken opened to a sold-out Grand Theatre on Friday.
A musical featuring the songs from Kingston's the Tragically Hip made its long-awaited debut in the band's hometown.
It's a Good Life If You Don't Weaken opened at the Grand Theatre on Thursday night.
There was a red carpet event on Friday prior to the performance that evening that was attended by the production's producers and writers. Gord Sinclair and Paul Langlois of the Tragically Hip were also there for the event.
One of the producers, Michael Rubinoff says this musical is geared to anyone who loves live theatre, not just fans of the Hip.
The story is about a journalist who comes to Canada after being exiled from Iraq and meets a local music store owner. 16 Tragically Hip songs were used to develop the story.
The band's longtime manager Jake Gold says there was a lot of thought going into this production.
Many people who came out to see the performances in Kingston say they were blown away. Some of them added the way the Hip's music brought the story to life was incredible.
Rubinoff says they have also put out an album to accompany the production.
It's a Good Life If You Don't Weaken is playing at the Grand Theatre until November 8.
