Grade 5 students in Kingston are invited to step into the Mayor’s shoes this spring.
Grade 5 students in Kingston are invited to step into the Mayor’s shoes this spring through the City’s second annual Mayor for a Day program.
One lucky student will spend a full day with Mayor Bryan Paterson, taking part in civic duties like touring City Hall, attending meetings and events, and even sitting in the Mayor’s chair in Council Chambers. Lunch with the Mayor is included.
“This program is all about encouraging young people to explore civic leadership,” said Paterson. “We’re excited to meet another bright, curious student.”
Students can visit Get Involved Kingston to learn more.
They are asked to answer the following questions in a video format:
- Why do you want to be Mayor for a day?
- What would be your first action as Mayor?
- What would you like to learn about the City of Kingston?
- Where would you like to visit during Mayor for a Day?
- What is your favourite thing about living in Kingston?
The deadline is Friday, June 13 at 4 p.m. Videos can be submitted online or recorded with help at select community centres.
Questions can be sent to Mayor@CityofKingston.ca.
