Police say no foul play is suspected.
A 20-year-old man from Nepean, Ont., drowned Saturday evening in the St. Lawrence River near Gananoque after falling from a stationary boat, according to Leeds County OPP.
Emergency crews were called around 6:30 p.m. on July 19, 2025. The man was not wearing a personal flotation device (PFD) and did not resurface after falling into the water.
He was pulled from the river several minutes later, but despite life-saving efforts by the Leeds County OPP Marine Unit, Leeds and Thousand Islands Fire Department, LG Paramedics, and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say no foul play is suspected. A postmortem will be conducted, and the investigation is ongoing in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Coroner.
The man’s identity is being withheld to protect the family’s privacy.
