Ground officially broke on a new fire hall and paramedics station in Kingston's west end.
A ceremony was held at the site on Taylor Kidd Blvd. east of Gardiners Rd. on Monday.
Interim Fire Chief Kevin Donaldson says it is great to finally have work on the new fire and paramedic station underway.
Donaldson was joined by Chief Paramedic Marc Goudie, Mayor Bryan Paterson, Trillium Ward Councillor Jimmy Hassen, members of the project team in putting the shovels to the ground.
Donaldson says there was a need to have a fire station in the west end.
The new building will have all the amenities and is designed to support equity for all users, with individual rooms, washrooms, showers and changing areas instead of gendered spaces.
Donaldson says crews will be able to clean up sooner after a call.
Construction of the state-of-the-art facility is expected to be completed in 2027.
