Major multi-year construction project in Kingston aims to modernize infrastructure and improve safety for all road users.
Construction is set to begin Monday on a major renewal project in Williamsville, marking the start of a multi-year effort to transform part of Princess Street.
The City of Kingston says phase one will focus on Princess Street between Division and Frontenac streets. On-street parking will be unavailable within the construction zone, and traffic impacts are expected.
The work includes rebuilding sidewalks, curbs and pedestrian crossings, along with adding a new signalized crossing at Frontenac Street. Dedicated cycle tracks, upgraded transit stops and improved accessibility features are also planned.
Below ground, crews will replace aging infrastructure, including watermains, sanitary services and combined sewers, while also upgrading hydro systems.
R.W. Tomlinson Ltd. has been contracted for the project. Roads are expected to reopen for a seasonal shutdown in winter 2026, with the second phase scheduled to begin in spring 2027.
City officials say the project will create a safer, more connected and vibrant corridor for residents, businesses and visitors.
