Police say one man handed a shoulder bag to the other, who then tried to enter a nearby shelter.
Two Kingston men are facing weapons charges after police say a replica firearm was found during a patrol near a downtown shelter.
According to Kingston Police, officers with the C.O.R.E. Unit were conducting proactive patrols around 2:00 p.m. near Nelson and Concession streets when they spotted two individuals acting suspiciously. Police say one man handed a shoulder bag to the other, who then tried to enter a nearby shelter.
Officers stopped the man before he entered, concerned about the safety of shelter occupants. Inside the bag, Kingston Police say they found a replica Glock 19x capable of firing metal pellets.
Both 20-year-old individuals were arrested for possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace. Police say both were already under court orders banning them from possessing weapons, including replicas.
They were taken to Kingston Police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.
