7 big wins for Kingston's favourite sons.
A documentary about The Tragically Hip has won big at the Canadian Screen Awards. No Dress Rehearsal, a four-part series about the Kingston rock band, took home seven major awards over the weekend.
The series was named Best Biography or Arts Documentary Program or Series. Director Mike Downie won Best Direction, Documentary Series for the fourth episode, Grace, Too.
The second episode, On the Verge, picked up four awards: Best Sound, Best Photography, Best Picture Editing, and the Barbara Sears Award for Best Visual Research.
The third part of the series, It’s a Good Life if You Don’t Weaken, also won a Barbara Sears Award — this one for Best Editorial Research.
The series explores not only the band’s story, but also how Gord Downie’s lyrics helped tell the story of Canada itself.
The Tragically Hip remains a Canadian cultural icon.
