Fire crews responded around 3:30 p.m.; officials say the situation is still developing
A downtown Kingston building caught fire Wednesday afternoon, prompting a major response from firefighters. The blaze was reported around 3:30 p.m. at 46 Montreal Street, the building that houses Suits, a long-running night club.
Kingston Fire & Rescue confirmed it is a structural fire, and crews remain on scene working to bring the situation under control. Thick smoke was seen rising from the area as firefighters worked both inside and outside the building. Chief Fire Prevention Officer, Ted Posadowski tells us more on the scene.
There is no word yet on injuries, the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage. Kingston Police and other emergency responders are assisting at the scene, and nearby traffic may be affected as crews continue their work. Posadowski says that 6 individuals were rescued from the building above.
More information is expected as officials release updates. The story is still developing.
