Wolfe Islanders turn a frustrating ferry outage into a heartwarming holiday story
Many Wolfe Island residents were left stranded when the Wolfe Islander IV ferry stopped running on Monday due to an electrical issue affecting the vessel’s power, and remined out of service for more than 24 hours.
Island resident Gerry Moore shared with KingstonDaily.ca that the island was "up in arms."
Commenting on this newer ferry, Moore says it's "Always breaking down. Or there's crew shortages, so they say. They can't operate in the wind,"
But the residents of Wolfe Island did their best to not let this dampen their Christmas spirit.
On Tuesday morning, the Wolfe Island Community Centre put a call out on their Facebook, inviting the community to an impromptu Christmas party.
Paula White shared she had received a call from a community member, who suggested they needed a bit of a spark.
By noon there was a party in full swing with music, hot chocolate, cookies and cheer.
White agreed with Moore, that these disruptions in service are challenging.
In the near future, Moore says they'd like a more reliable vessel.
White added they'd like better communication with the MTO and from the Provincial government on what they're doing to ensure the vessels are safe, secure and reliable.
To end on a positive note, White shared they all feel so lucky to live on this amazing island.
