Officers stopped a pickup truck and noticed a child in the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt.
Frontenac Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program at the Highway 38 exit of eastbound Highway 401 in Kingston On Friday, June 6th.
During the program, officers stopped a pickup truck and noticed a child in the vehicle was not wearing a seatbelt.
Using an approved roadside alcohol screening device, officers arrested the driver for impaired driving and transported him to the detachment for further testing.
37 year old Derek Lawless of Kingston, faces multiple charges including operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80, driving while under suspension, failing to ensure a passenger under 16 was properly buckled, and failing to comply with an undertaking.
Lawless was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kingston on July 24th.
His driver’s license was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded.
