95 acres in the 401-Gardiners Rd. area has been earmarked for a new hospital.
A section of land near the 401 is being tabbed for a new hospital in Kingston.
The City announced in a news release on Thursday that it has earmarked 95 acres of the Clogg's Road Business Park for a possible new hospital.
Kingston Health Sciences Centre has been looking at ways to improve service and care.
That included redevelopment and expansion at the current Kingston General and Hotel Dieu sites.
However, they concluded that none of the options available were feasible due to the growing need for increasingly complex acute care services, and the structural obstacles on the existing sites.
Officials at KHSC say Clogg's Road location will provide easier and faster regional hospital access, as well as opportunities for future expansion.
They are developing a master site plan and working with the Ministry of Health and Infrastructure Ontario to advance this new hospital complex.
However, the timeline for construction is still unknown as development of the new complex depends on the confirmation and timing of Ministry funding.
Meanwhile, the City says they are working on securing employment lands in other parts of the city to replace the inventory of land being committed for hospital development.
