Popular Beer Store in Amherstview set to shut down this summer

With the closure, customers may have to drive to Kingston or Napanee to get their deposit refunds.

Beer lovers in Amherstview will need a new spot to return their empties.

Their Beer Store at 4501 Bath Road is on the latest  list of stores to close. It's last day of operation will be Sunday, August 10, 2025. It’s one of 10 additional locations across Ontario shutting down as the company adapts to a changing market.

The closure is expected to affect six jobs—two full-time and four part-time. While it's unclear if workers will be relocated, the store has long been a busy spot, especially for bottle returns.

With the closure, customers may have to drive to Kingston or Napanee to get their deposit refunds. Some residents are expected to use blue bins instead.

Beer and cider can still be found in the town. It can be purchased nearby at the Amherstview Foodland.

The Amherstview closure follows the loss of a Kingston location earlier this year. The retailer cites a changing market after the sale of beer was added to convenience, grocery and big box stores last year.
