The move to York street is immediate and will remain in place until the issue is resolved.
A plumbing emergency shut down the Adelaide Street Shelter at 38 Cowdy St. later Wednesday night into early yesterday morning, forcing the City of Kingston to make some changes.
Starting Friday (May 9), services will shift to the Memorial Centre at 303 York St.—until repairs are complete.
Shelter and day services will be available 24/7 at the Memorial Centre.
These include Street Outreach, Housing First, and Prevention/Diversion programs. A security guard will remain on site at all times, with support from City By-Law officers and Kingston Police if needed.
City officials thanked community groups like Lionhearts, AMHS, Street Outreach, the Red Cross and others for their help during the transition.
The City says these partnerships are key to making sure those experiencing homelessness continue to get the support they need.
