Over half of the total charges laid were for speeding.
Ontario Provincial Police laid more than 2,500 charges across eastern Ontario during Canada Road Safety Week 2025, held from May 13 to 19.
Officers from all East Region Detachments and the Highway Safety Division focused on road safety as summer travel begins.
Speeding was the top offence, with 1,303 drivers charged.
Other charges included 38 for stunt driving, 47 for impaired driving, 26 for careless driving, 71 for distracted driving, 8 for driving while prohibited, and 151 for insurance violations.
Police say road safety must be a top priority every day of the year.
They warn that officers will remain active on highways and roads throughout the summer.
The OPP urges anyone who sees dangerous or impaired driving to call 911.
These efforts aim to keep roads safer for all drivers, passengers, and pedestrians as traffic increases with warmer weather and holiday travel.
